Steps needed to obtain the K1 Visa:

Any United States citizen who is going to marry a foreign national in the US may file a petition for a K1 Visa. The US citizen (yourself) and his/her fiancé must be free to marry each other. This would mean that both parties are unmarried and/or that any previous marriages from either party must have ended in death, divorce or by annulment. The couple who plan to marry must have met in person (be it at least once) within the preceding 2 years prior to your filing the petition. There is however in the cases of extraordinary circumstances whereby the couple would not need to have met in person. These would include any religious and/or extreme hardship cases.
Requirements for obtaining a K1 Visa
The following would be the requirements for a K1 Visa application for your Thai fiancée:
1. You have to be a US citizen.
2. You and your Thai fiancé must both be free to marry for a K1 Visa.
3. During the preceding 2 years you must have at least met once to apply for a K1 visa.
4. It must be your intention and that of your fiancé to marry within the 90 days of his/her arrival in US.
5. You must meet the minimum required income for the K1 visa.
6. You must prove sufficient income to qualify for the Affidavit of Support.
7. The US government also requires you as the petitioner for the K1 Visa to prove you have sufficient regular income to support your fiancée so that he/she will not become a welfare recipient.
