What is a K1 Fiancé Visa?
A K-1 fiancé visa allows a U.S. citizen’s fiancé to enter the United States for the purpose of getting married.
What are the benefits of K1 Visa?
- A K-1 Fiancé visa generally has a shorter processing time than a K-3 visa or an IR1/CR1 Immediate Relative immigration petition.

- A K-1 Fiancé can file for an employment permit upon entering the United States.
2 Steps to obtain the K1 Visa:
First Step:The US citizen has to file an I-129F petition for their fiancé with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS).
Second Step:
After approval of the USCIS Fiancé Petition, the case is sent to the local consulate for further processing and an interview with the fiancé.
What happens after the K1 Visa has been issued?
After the K-1 visa has been approved, your fiancé will be provided a six month single entry visa for the United States. Upon entry, the fiancé and the U.S. citizen has to marry within 90 days.
Who is Eligible for a K1 Visa?
A U.S. citizen can file a K-1 petition for their fiancé. The US citizen and the fiancé must be free to marry each other.
